Apologies for the lack of posts over the last few months - I've been completely up in the air (literally and figuratively) as I've been travelling around non-stop until 2 weeks ago! I went home to Kuala Lumpur towards the end of May and from KL I went to Bali, Koh Samui and Penang. Then I went to Seoul for a week and half, followed by Moscow for a week and I have now finally returned to the UK.
I've been staying with my friend Kat in London for the past 2 weeks. I love coming to London because although I thought of myself as a beach babe (hence why I decided to study in Bournemouth) I am a true city girl at heart. I love the commotion and the noise and the people and the mad rush. Of course there are days when I get fed up of all of these things and it tires me out but it is because cities are so harsh and hard that unexpected soft spots feel so sweet. For example, Colombia Flower Market in Shoreditch. Kat took me here on Sunday morning, describing it as "a row of flower stalls with lots of cute boutiques and cafes around". I wasn't expecting much but when I got there I could see why Kat had explained Colombia Flower Market as her "favourite place in London".
A collage of photos that I took at the Colombia Flower Market.
The Colombia Flower Market is the ideal place for buying beautiful flowers at an even more appealing price. Towards the very end of the day (around 2-3pm) when the flower stalls start to pack up, the prices drop even more as the merchants get frantic to get rid of their flowers. Big-bellied men scream "FIVER! FIVER! CAN YOU HEAR ME! MY FLOWERS ARE A FIVER!" and a black man in a silk yellow shirt and polka dotted vest sings his price, luring the women in with his charming lines.
Walking through the flower market and peaking into the boutiques with a capuccino in hand, I couldn't help but repeat "this is what makes me want to live in London"! It was a wonderful feeling being surrounded by such beauty, sunshine, and good vibes. Places like Colombia Flower Market give big bad cities the charm and warmth that give people the escape from the mad rush of tubes and roaring buses. It is places like Colombia Flower Market that give life and comfort to even the busiest cities like London.
